I Win, I Win

September 24, 2008

Tonight, we all happily ate our chili.  This was never about anything as mundane as eating your dinner or not arguing.  It was a test of will.  Which face did you think was going to win.

The next lesson for the kids is called “You Will Not Win A Board Game For At Least A Decade”.

Everyday is Chili Day

September 24, 2008

I’m thinking of starting a new TV show.  There is currently one on called “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader“.  My show is going to be called “Do You Have More Willpower Than a Kindergartner”.

The premise is simple.  Parents will have to serve the same meal every night until their Kindergartner submits and finally eats.  If the child eats, their prize will be to grow up and be a well-adjusted, productive member of society with a deep appreciation for authority figures.  If the child refuses to eat and the parent caves in, they will be required to live the rest of their lives hostage to the whims of 5 year old dinner terrorists.

Tonight we will be having chili for the 4th night in a row. The last time our son, Jackson, ate dinner was Saturday (note to Grandparents and Child Services:  He has eaten breakfast and lunch every day).   In the nearly 6 years Jackson has been with us we’ve had chili approximately 36 times and he’s always eaten it.  This week, we don’t like chili.  Cooper, his 3 year old brother, has dutifully followed suit in steadfast refusal to eat chili.

I refuse to argue about dinner any longer.  If they don’t want to eat what we have they don’t have to.  My new twist is we’ll have it every night until they eat some.

If they don’t eat tonight we’ll have to make a new crockpot full of chili, as I do like it and have happily eaten it every night.

An interesting scientific sidelight to the struggle between good and evil is that I have eaten approximately 3 pounds of beans in the last 4 days.

I stand resolute.  Wish me luck.
