Sounds Familiar

October 5, 2008

Today I bought Alan Greenspan’s memoir.  I know, I know, doesn’t sound too exciting.  Perhaps monetary policy and macro-enconomics aren’t your thing.  Don’t worry, they probably don’t sell it at the comic book store.

Anyway, I found a very interesting passage in the introduction. Greenspan was describing the activities immediately after 9/11 and was telling the story of sponsoring a $100B economic stimulus package to restore consumer confidence in the economy after the attack.  Here is what caught my eye:

“…it bogged down in politics and stalled.  The package that finally emerged in March 2002 not only was months too late but also had little to do with the original intent – it was an embarrassing mess of pork barrel projects.”

Hmm.  I’ve heard this story somewhere before.  Let me think.  Now, where was it.  Let me check my records.
